Sowparnika Balaswaminathan is a PhD candidate at the Department of Anthropology in the University of California, San Diego. She works with the sculptor community in Swamimalai, Tamilnadu who create bronze sculptures that have religious, artistic, archaeological, and commercial value. Her interests are sociocultural anthropology, ethnoarchaeology, museology, and art and craft policy.
